He escaped to the United States following the assassination of Madero returned to Mexico and formed a new revolutionary army , the Northern Division (1913 ) .
With it supported the struggle of Emiliano Zapata and Venustiano Carranza against Huerta , who had emerged as dictator. Together they overthrew him in 1914 , but after the victory of this second revolution , Villa and Zapata were disappointed by Carranza, and returned to take up arms against him now . This time luck was not on military hand : Álvaro Obregón defeated the Villa and Carranza was consolidated in power , achieving official recognition of his government by the United States .
